摘要：This paper explores Nadsat in A Clockwork Orange from the perspective of critical discourse analysis. Nadsat teenagers demonstrate their identity as belonging to in-group through categorizing themselves and rejecting to be categorized by particular types of representation. Orders of indexicality indicates that adherence to in-group linguistic norms is not the sole means by which teenagers display their affiliation and commitment to the social group. They choose to shift from anti-language to standard language as social contexts change. Through the manipulative linguistic shift, teenagers, as socially situated subjects, accomplish the switch into conflicting identities. They start ritual insult to construct alternative social reality.
