冬至”，是二十四节气中的第二十二节气，通常在12月21日或者22日。在这一天，日昼最短夜最长。这些都是我们在地理课本上学到过的。那么，“冬至”的英语该怎么说呢？

冬至：Winter Solstice

“solstice”这个词我们不太看到，因为它的意思很特别，表示“the time of either the longest day in the year (about June 22) or the shortest day in the year (about December 22)”。这么看来，这个词的用武之地似乎局限性很大了。基本上也就用在“Winter Solstice”（冬至）以及“Summer Solstice”（夏至）之处。

冬至这天有啥传统习俗？

Winter Solstice is a time for the family to get together. One activity that occurs during these get togethers (especially in the southern parts of China and in Chinese communities overseas) is the making and eating of Tangyuan or balls of glutinous rice, which symbolize reunion.

冬至是家族团聚的一天。在这天，中国南方的家庭会包汤圆、吃汤圆，以象征团圆的意思。不过在中国北方，似乎更多的人会吃饺子。比如说会有“冬至到，吃水饺”这样的谚语。

中国人为什么比较重视冬至？

其实，但从中国文化方面讲，“冬至”这个日子还可以翻译成“Dongzhi Festival”，中国人为什么都比较重视这个节气呢？

The origins of this festival can be traced back to the yin and yang philosophy of balance and harmony in the cosmos. After this celebration, there will be days with longer daylight hours and therefore an increase in positive energy flowing in.

循环的开始，“阳”气逐渐回升，因此也算是个吉利的日子啦。

一、现在完成进行时

构成：由“have /has been +现在分词”构成。

用法：表示从过去某个时候开始一直延续到现在的动作。强调现在依然在进行，并还可能继续延续下去。如：

The Chinese have been making paper for two thousand years. 中国人造纸有2000年了。(2000年前中国人开始造纸，现在中国人还在造纸)

注：有的动词用现在完成时或现在完成进行时没什么差别。如： We’ve been living here since 1 990.

We’ve lived here since 1990. 从1990年起我们就在这里住了。 但有些静态动词只能用于现在完成时，一般不能用于完成进行时。如： I’ve known him for many years. 我认识他有许多年了。 二、过去完成进行时

构成：由“had been +现在分词”构成。

用法：表示从过去某一时间开始一直延续到另外一个过去时间的动作，这个动作在当时仍在进行并可能继续延续下去。如：

He was out of breath. He had been running. 他气喘吁吁，他一直在跑着。 Up till then she had been living with her son. 到那时为止她一直和她儿子一起住。

He gave up smoking last year. He’d been smoking for thirty years. 去
